History had a program about building American cities.  Wonderful stuff especially for history geeks and fact ferrets like me.  Here are a few links that struck me as I watched that I will be checking into for more inspiration.   We are not alone in our fight for social justice.  It happened back in the 1890s and was documented extensively by the photographer Riis back then.

Thanks for posting and bringing this work to our attention. A picture is worth a thousand words, they say. That is certainly true here. These tenament photos are so moving. I have seen similar black and white images by the depression era photographers, such as Walker Evans, but those focus on farming families. And of course the Civil Rights Era photos are evocative as well. Despair, it seems, has been an equal opportunity social malaise. What's equally inspiring is how the pictures in each instant marked a turning point (coincidence? or trigger?)in social awareness and activity. I guess either way a heartfelt shout out of appreciation to these social commentators is appropriate.
