A picture is worth a thousand words, they say. That is certainly true here. These tenament photos are so moving. I have seen similar black and white images by the depression era photographers, such as Walker Evans, but those focus on farming families. And of course the Civil Rights Era photos are evocative as well. Despair, it seems, has been an equal opportunity social malaise. What's equally inspiring is how the pictures in each instant marked a turning point (coincidence? or trigger?)in social awareness and activity. I guess either way a heartfelt shout out of appreciation to these social commentators is appropriate.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
